Nitin Gadkari served as the Minister of Public Works Department(PWD) of the Government of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999 and restructured it from top to bottom. He has served as the president of the Maharashtra BJP. Nitin Gadkari was seeking second term as Bhartiya Janta Party President but resigned from the post on January 22, 2013, due to alleged irregularities in the firm Purti Group promoted by him.Many senior party leaders, such as Yashwant Sinha, were against the re-election of Nitin Gadkari.
