If needed will alliance with ShivSena after Election said senior BJP leader Vinod Tawde. The maiden electoral battle for senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vinod Tawde, which was expected to be a cakewalk for him, has turned into a challenging multi-cornered battle after the Sena-BJP and Congress-NCP alliances broke.
BJP candidates have won the Borivali Vidhan Sabha constituency only since the 1978 general elections. The seat was first won by veteran BJP leader Ram Naik for three consecutive terms between 1978 and 1985, breaking the Congress domination in the area. Following this, Hemendra Mehta was elected from the seat for three terms between 1990 and 1999. The legacy that continued for six general elections was then taken forward by Gopal Chinayya Shetty, who won from the same seat for two terms between 2004 and 2009.
