…THE CHASE…

Sri Lanka's innings was all about Charith Asalanka! Had it not been for him, 250 would have not been breached. However, a few of their batters got off to starts but none went onto make it big. A couple of them also gifted their wickets to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will know they are a little under par. Had Charith Asalanka got able support, they could have got over the 300-run mark. Still though Bangladesh have struggled with the bat but Sri Lanka have not been all that great with the ball. The talking point of the innings was Angelo Mathews' wicket but for now, Sri Lanka have other things to handle as well. An interesting second half awaits.

Have to say it will be Bangladesh who will be the happier of the two sides at the moment! On a flat wicket, they have restricted Lanka to below 300 which is a tremendous effort. The key for them was picking wickets at regular intervals and that is what always pegged the Lankans back. Except for Taskin Ahmed, everybody got a wicket at least. Tanzim Hasan Sakib was expensive but he got three wickets. The rest though bowled with control and overall, Shakib Al Hasan will be very pleased with how things have ended.

This is the first time in a very long time this is happening and rightly so. Angelo Mathews HAS BEEN TIMED OUT! He has to walk back without even facing a ball. He walked out with a helmet he was not happy with. Angelo Mathews probably was not ready and just picked any helmet next to him. He called out for one which took time. Bangladesh asked the question, Mathews pleaded his case but in the end, he has been given OUT! Massive blow and Lanka slip further. The rule is, a batter has to face a ball within two minutes after coming out and that was not the case. The right decision in the end we believe, you have to walk in all ready. Waqar Younis is not happy with the call. He believes, it is against the spirit of the game but it is in the rule book and Bangladesh have every right to put in an appeal there and the umpire ruled it in their favor.

Hello and welcome to the 38th game of the World Cup where two Asian-rivals, Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka. We are into the final week of the group-stages and today we see two teams who are at the bottom half of the table. Bangladesh are already eliminated while the Lankans have small hope to climb the ladder but virtually even they look done and dusted.

We are almost at the end of the league stages for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. It is match 38 where Bangladesh will go up against Sri Lanka in Delhi. Bangladesh is practically out of the qualification scenario for the semi-finals. They started off the tournament well with a win over Afghanistan but after that, it has been a series of losses. They are currently on a 6-match losing streak. The batters are not scoring runs consistently and the bowlers are also failing to take timely wickets. Hence, they are put under pressure by their opposition. In their last game against Pakistan, Tanzid Hasan was dismissed for a duck at the start of the innings. Litton Das carried the score well along with Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan. Apart from them, none of the batters could build a strong partnership. Their bowling unit was mainly handled by Mehidy Hasan as he took 3 wickets but those weren't enough as the batters got used to the conditions and built strong partnerships. None of the bowlers could manage to take timely wickets. There will be a lot to discuss for Bangladesh before this match and they will hope to end their tournament with a win. The qualification scenario for Sri Lanka still hangs in balance and it is a must-win game for them. They have had a pretty average season, only winning two of their games. Their last game against India was an absolute failure of their batting order. Their bowlers leaked a lot of runs but Dilshan Madushanka was the star as he took a fifer. During the chase, 5 of their batters were dismissed for ducks including their openers, Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne. After that, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Charith Asalanka were also dismissed for single-digit scores. Angelo Mathews played some good shots but failed to score big himself. Maheesh Theekshana and Kasun Rajitha gave a strong end as they scored a couple of boundaries and were the highest scorers in the team. Sri Lanka will have to win this match with a good margin to boost their NRR to have some hope for qualifying for the semi-finals.
