nd Innings Netherlands
That brings us to the end of match number 24 of the ICC World Cup 2023 where Australia crushed Netherlands with 309 runs to grab 2 more points in the points table. The World Cup has experienced 2 one-sided games back to back in 2 days where one team has been far ahead of the other. Match number 25 is England taking on Sri Lanka. Do we have another one-sided contest or will it be a nail-biter, let's find out on the 26th of October, 2023 at 2 pm IST (8.30 am GMT).
Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, at the post-match presentation, says that he is really happy with the performance. Adds that The batters were able to get the big runs on the board and the bowlers looked in real good rhythm. When asked about Glenn Maxwell’s innings, he says that he has always been a brilliant batter but tonight he was at his best and he deserves to hold the record. He adds that he is happy with the fact that they were able to get wickets in the powerplay and will look to continue this ahead. Ends by saying that every game from here is very important to them and they will carry the same confidence ahead for the next game.
The Netherlands' skipper Scott Edwards says that Australia are a quality unit. Adds that they have world-class bowlers while defending 400. Feels that the execution could have been better with the ball. Credits the Aussie batters for the way they batted. Reckons that they almost got back in with 10 overs to go. Shares that it is a pretty nice wicket and the margin of error is small. States that the openers have been one of the reasons for them getting here and they will continue to back them. Ends by saying that he wants batting to click in the last four games.
Glenn Maxwell is the Player of the Match for his exceptional ton. He says that it was probably something that he did not set out for at the start of the day. Mentions that it was important for him to set a good platform and make sure that he was there till the end. Reckons that it is nice to get a bit of rhythm and making good decisions at the start helped him. Feels that his knock is a huge confidence booster going forward. Further adds that doubts start to creep in when you do not get runs consistently. States that it was a close-to-perfect game when you score 400 and bowl the opposition out for less than 100. Adds that everything went right with the ball and in the field which bodes well for their tournament.
… TIME FOR THE PRESENTATIONS …
The Netherlands' batting, in contrast, struggled to gain momentum throughout their innings. They faced early pressure, and wickets fell at regular intervals. The Australian fast bowlers were relentless, conceding few opportunities to the Dutch batter. Only five Netherlands' batters managed to reach double-digit scores, with just one surpassing 20 runs. Australia's bowlers were relentless, ensuring no respite for the Dutch batting lineup. The Netherlands' innings concluded with a meager total of 90 runs, a performance they will undoubtedly want to put behind them as they look ahead in the tournament. The 309-run margin of defeat is a record in World Cup history, symbolizing Australia's complete domination in the match with both bat and ball. Adam Zampa played a pivotal role, taking four wickets, including three in consecutive matches, to dismantle the Netherlands' batting lineup and secure Australia's resounding victory. This victory, after two initial losses, has firmly reestablished Australia as a strong contender in the World Cup.
The Netherlands lost their last 5 wickets for 9 runs and it is Australia who has a big win in the bag. Australia notched up a commanding victory against the Netherlands, setting a new World Cup record with a massive margin of 309 runs. Opting to bat after winning the toss, Australia posted an imposing total of 399 runs in their 50 overs. Their batting was highlighted by two centuries, including a record-breaking performance by Glenn Maxwell, who scored the fastest century in World Cup history. David Warner contributed a brilliant century, making 104 runs off 93 balls, while Steven Smith found his form with 71 off 68, and Marnus Labuschagne added 62 off just 47. However, it was Glenn Maxwell's explosive 106 off only 44 balls that propelled Australia to their formidable total. It was a total demolition by the Australians tonight both with the bat and ball.

st Innings Australia
Welcome back for the chase. The two umpires make their way out to the centre as do the Aussies dispersing from the huddle. It will be the left-hand right-hand combination of Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd to open the innings for the Netherlands. Mitchell Starc is at the top of his mark and he will start proceedings with the new ball for Australia. Here we go…
… THE RUN CHASE …
Right then, Australia have been powered to a grand total thanks to centuries from Glenn Maxwell and David Warner. They would want to bowl the Netherlands out cheaply to boost their net run rate significantly. Join us in a bit to see how the Dutch chase unfolds.
The man of the moment, Glenn Maxwell is in for a chat. He says that it feels great to bat like that and this brings a lot of confidence in him for the rest of the tournament. He adds that the wicket is really good to bat on under the lights and the ball comes on to the bat more. He finally says that it is a par score for any team to chase and they will look to take wickets with the new ball and restrict the Netherlands to the minimum for a better run rate.
As far as the Netherlands are concerned, they did not do much wrong except that they had to bowl to a certain Glenn Maxwell. Scott Edwards opted to start with spin from both ends and that move did not seem to work out. It was pace that did the trick for the Dutch as Logan van Beek struck in his first over. They will rue the missed run out opportunity by Max O'Dowd which gave life to David Warner early on in his innings. In the middle phase, the bowlers did a decent job of keeping the runs in check and the bowlers were well complemented by the fielders. Having got wickets in quick succession before the start of the last 10 overs, Netherlands would have hoped to finish strongly with the ball. Once Glenn Maxwell started doing Glenn Maxwell things, the Dutch bowers did not stand a chance as they were put off their lines and lengths and stood no chance against him.
Wow, that was a Big Show, quite literally! Glenn Maxwell has done what he does best and by doing so, he has helped Australia get to a humongous total. After Pat Cummins opted to bat first, David Warner got himself going with a flurry of boundaries, but his opening partner, Mitchell Marsh, perished early. Coming in at number 3, Steven Smith was quick to get off the blocks, and both batters did not miss out on punishing loose deliveries. Smith got out on 71, but Warner, having gotten a life on 32, made sure to make the Netherlands pay for it. He was starved of strike when he was in his 90s, but it did not hamper his momentum as he brought up yet another World Cup hundred. From 244-2, Australia slipped to 290-6 and it looked like they would lose their way. It wasn't to be as Glenn Maxwell put on an absolute clinic with his onslaught against the Dutch bowlers. Whether it was the conventional hitting or the unorthodox shots, Maxwell did not miss a beat on his way to the fastest ever ODI World Cup hundred off just 40 balls.

The teams and the umpires are taking their place on the field. It is David Warner and Mitchell Marsh as the opening batters for Australia. The ringing of the bell at this venue means the start of the game. Aryan Dutt to start the attack for the Netherlands. Let's Play!
All the players and the match officials are on the ground and before the national anthems, the teams observe a moment's silence to mourn the passing of former India Test Captain and legendary spinner, Bishan Singh Bedi. It is Netherland's National Anthem first, followed by Australia's National Anthem.
Netherlands' captain Scott Edwards says that they wanted to bowl first anyway. Mentions that the team is in a good place and they want to play good cricket for long periods. Hopes that the team can rectify the mistakes and get the win here. Shares that the boys are keen to put on runs and it is important to back them. Ends by informing that they are going with the same team as the last game.
The skipper of Australia, Pat Cummins says that they will bat first. States that he is very happy with the way the side has played the previous two games, after losing the first two and will want to continue the winning momentum. He adds on by saying that the wicket looks really good, the ground here in Delhi has short square boundaries and they expect to score big batting first. Informs that this game is a bridge too far for Travis Head and he will require a few more days. Also says that Marcus Stoinis misses out due to a minor calf niggle and he is replaced by Cameron Green.
Netherlands (Unchanged Playing XI) – Vikramjit Singh, Max O'Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Bas de Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, Scott Edwards (C/WK), Sybrand Engelbrecht, Logan van Beek, Roelof van der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, Paul van Meekeren.
Australia (Playing XI) – David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (WK), Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green (In for Marcus Stoinis), Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa.
TOSS – The flip of the coin lands in the favour of Australia and they have opted to BAT first.
PITCH REPORT – Pommie Mbangwa is near the deck. He informs that this venue has short square boundaries but the straight boundaries are 72 metres long. Mentions that this is the same surface that was used for the game between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Waqar Younis joins him and says that this surface will be a nightmare for the bowlers. Adds that this surface has less grass than that game. Shares that it has a sheen on it and reckons that the ball will slide onto the bat. Feels that the toss will not matter much but if there is dew, bowling second will be tough.
The Netherlands emerged as one of the standout teams in this World Cup, particularly after their remarkable victory over South Africa. The Dutch side seem content with their current XI and is set to field the same team that narrowly missed out on a win against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. Spinners Aryan Dutt and Roelof van der Merwe are expected to play crucial roles for the Netherlands. Led by Australian-raised Scott Edwards, the Dutch squad has been further reinforced by the inclusion of county players Colin Ackermann, Paul van Meekeren, and Roelof van der Merwe since the qualifying tournament in July. As the stage is set for the 24th match of the ICC World Cup 2023, the question lingers would we witness another upset in the World Cup tonight, or would Australia secure a comfortable victory to advance in the standings? The toss updates were on the horizon, so stay tuned for an exciting contest ahead.
Australia has shown remarkable resilience after losing their first two matches in the World Cup, bouncing back with a 62-run victory over Pakistan in Bangalore and a triumph over Sri Lanka in Lucknow. The return of Travis Head to the squad is a significant development for Australia. Whether Head would be in the playing XI for this match remained a question, as the team pondered maintaining their winning momentum or incorporating his talents. One key concern for Australian skipper Pat Cummins was the middle-order batting, with hopes resting on star batter Steven Smith to deliver significant runs in the remainder of the tournament. Despite this, Australia's bowling and fielding performances have been impressive, and their all-rounders have made vital contributions with both the bat and ball. While Australia appear superior on paper, this World Cup has demonstrated that any team can secure victory on a given day.
A warm good morning to all the welcomed fans as we take you straight to the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the 24th ICC Men's World Cup 2023 match, featuring Australia and the Netherlands. Despite concerns about air pollution in Delhi, the weather appeared promising for an exciting cricket match, with both teams eager to secure two crucial points and climb the tournament ladder.
… MATCH DAY …
The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is set to host the 24th match of the ICC Men's World Cup, where Australia will take on the Netherlands. Delhi has already witnessed some thrilling encounters in this World Cup, with notable fixtures such as the high-scoring contest between South Africa and Sri Lanka, where over 700 runs were scored, and Afghanistan's historic win over England. Interestingly, spin bowlers have proved to be more effective, accounting for 19 wickets with an economy rate of 5.47, compared to pace bowlers who have taken 24 wickets at an economy of 7.34. The expected weather conditions include a typical temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius, but the air quality remains a significant concern due to pollution, burning-off activities, and dust particles. Australia's journey in this World Cup has taken an upturn after a 62-run victory over Pakistan in Bengaluru, propelling them into the top four for the first time in this tournament. After a challenging start with losses to India and South Africa, Australia has rebounded with consecutive wins over Sri Lanka in Lucknow and Pakistan. In contrast, the Netherlands, who entered this World Cup on the back of numerous wins during the qualifying tournament, suffered two comfortable losses in their initial matches. However, they stunned everyone with a remarkable 38-run victory against previously undefeated South Africa in Dharamshala. It marked the Dutch's third-ever win in World Cup history in all formats. While it has been 16 years since their last official ODI meeting, these two sides clashed in a World Cup warm-up match in Kerala just before the tournament commenced. The match was severely affected by consistent rain due to the monsoon season in that part of India, and it's particularly remembered for Mitchell Starc's hat-trick. The rain-shortened match saw Steven Smith score 55 as the opener, with the Netherlands at 6-84 after 14.2 overs when rain struck again and ended the contest. The return of opening batter Travis Head to the Australian squad is a significant development, although his inclusion in the playing XI for the Netherlands match remains uncertain. The squad's only other fitness concern is Adam Zampa, who has been dealing with back spasms. While Head displayed his form during training, Australia might opt for a cautious approach, giving him additional recovery time, especially considering the team's back-to-back wins. On the other hand, the Dutch side appears content with their XI and is expected to field the same team that narrowly missed out against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. Spinners Aryan Dutt and Roelof van der Merwe are anticipated to play vital roles for the Netherlands. Led by Australian-raised Scott Edwards, the Dutch team has further strengthened its squad with the inclusion of county players Colin Ackermann, Paul van Meekeren, and Roelof van der Merwe since the qualifying tournament in July. We look all set for match number 24 of the ICC World Cup 2023. Will we experience another upset? Or will Australia make it a comfortable win to move up the ladder?
