वेगवेगळ्या व्यवसायांमधली परिभाषा वापरून त्यानुसार इंग्रजीमध्ये वेगवेगळे वाक्प्रचार तयार झाले आहेत. त्यांच्यातील गंमत- आम्हा मित्रांचा Vocabulary Study Circle (इंग्रजी शब्दाभ्यास मंडळ) नामक गट आहे. सुट्टीदिवशी एकत्र जमून आम्ही इंग्रजी शब्दांची चर्चा करत असतो. एकदा गंमत म्हणून अभ्यास मंडळाच्या सदस्यांना त्यांच्या व्यवसायाशी संबंधित असे एसेमेस लिहिले. त्यातले काही (व्यक्तींची नावे गाळून) तुमच्यापुढे सादर करतो. १) आमचे एक मित्र संगीतातले दर्दी. स्वत पेटी वाजवणारे. त्यांना संदेश लिहिला Vocabulary building is difficult. Be serious and pull out all the stops.pull out all the stops - do everything you can to make something successful एखादी गोष्ट यशस्वी होण्यासाठी सर्वतोपरी प्रयत्न.उदा. We’ll have to pull out all the stops to get this order ready by the end of the week. (खूप मोठा आवाज मिळवण्यासाठी ऑर्गनच्या सर्व कळी वादक बाहेर ओढतो (pulls out all the stops) यावरून हा वाक्प्रचार आलाय.)--२) आमचे डॉक्टर मित्र. कामापुरतं इंग्रजी बोलू शकणारे. पण शब्दव्यासंग वाढवू इच्छिणारे. त्यांना लिहिलं- Sir, to build a solid vocabulary, this bulletin is just what the doctor ordered.just what the doctor ordered - exactly what somebody wants or needs. उदा. १) After an hour of workout, a cool, refreshing drink is just what the doctor ordered!-- ३) आमच्या दंतवैद्य मित्रासाठी संदेश- Get your teeth into vocabulary study and you will know how interesting it is. get your teeth into something - to start to do something with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. उदा. 1) It’s a really exciting project. I can’t wait to get my teeth into in. 2) This job is very easy. Please give me something I can really get my teeth into. ४) Homemaker (गृहिणी) असलेली माझी आत्या उजळणी करणं जमत नाही वगरे सबबी सांगते. तिला कळवलं- Don’t put vocabulary on the back burner. Make it a priority.on the back burner - (an idea or a plan) left for the present time to be done later. उदा. 1) Plans for a new school building have been put on the back burner.2) The marriage was put on the back burner when the office sent her to America. --५) आमचे एक जेष्ठ स्नेही बुद्धिमान, दिलदार पण मद्यपी. एकदा दारू चढली की सगळी हुशारी विसरून जातात. त्यांना (जरासा खोडसाळ) संदेश पाठवला.- One word a day is not enough, have one too many.have had one too many - have drunk too much alcohol; पिऊन तर्र. उदा. १) As usual Dilya (दिलीपचा शॉर्टफॉर्म) had one too many. He can hardly stand up.--जॉन मॉर्टमिर नामक एक प्रख्यात वकील वारले. अनेक पुस्तकांचे लेखक असलेले मॉर्टमिर हे एक बहुढंगी व्यक्तिमत्व. त्यांना श्रद्धांजली वाहणाऱ्या लेखाचं शीर्षक होतं- John Mortimer rests his case.I rest my case - used by lawyers in court to say that they have finished presenting their case. (rests his case असा वकिली शब्दप्रयोग समर्पकपणे वापरून लेखकानं मॉर्टमिर वकिलांच्या मृत्यूचा सूचक आणि सुरेख उल्लेख केलाय.)
