सेक्स हा शब्द मोठय़ाने उच्चारला गेला तरी काहीजण कावरेबावरे होऊन आजूबाजूला बघायला लागतात. पण इंग्रजीमध्ये असे काही शब्द आहेत, ज्यांच्यामध्ये sex आहे, पण त्या शब्दांचा सेक्सशी काहीही संबंध नाही. ओशो (रजनीश) यांचं एक पुस्तक आहे- ‘संभोगसे समाधीकी ओर’ (from sex to super consciousness). एके काळी या छोटय़ाशा पुस्तकानं प्रचंड गदारोळ माजवला. बहुतेकांनी (पुस्तक न वाचताच) त्यावर मतप्रदर्शन केलं. मराठी भाषांतरकारानं ‘संभोगाकडून समाधीकडे’ ऐवजी ‘संभोगातून समाधीकडे’ असं नाव देऊन, वादात रंगत आणली. पारंपरिक पठडीतल्या लोकांनी शीर्षक ऐकूनच नाकं मुरडली. काही आंबटशौकिनांनी पुस्तक मिळवून वाचलं, पण ‘तसलं’ काहीच न मिळाल्याने, तेही नाराज झाले. हे बुलेटिन लिहिताना, या गोष्टी आठवायचं कारण म्हणजे आजच्या सर्वच शब्दांत sex आहे, पण त्याचा ‘सेक्स’शी काही संबंध नाही.the fair sex (फेअ(र)सेक्स्) - women.(The fair sex is used to mean women in general.) उदा. 1) Men were tired but the fair sex enjoyed shopping in the street.2) Traditionally lavni (लावणी) is watched by men. So a special show was arranged only for the fair sex. sextuplet (सेक्स्टुप्लट)-one of six children born at the same time to the same mother; (सहाळं)उदा. 1) To my surprise a thin, weak woman was the mother of the sextuplets.2) Sextuplets delivered naturally, with minimum medical help, is a miracle. sexist (सेक्सिस्ट्) -person who treats other people, especially women, unfairly because of their sex or who makes offensive remarks about them.उदा. 1) It's extremely sexist having all those photographs of semi nude women in the newspaper.2) My father was a complete sexist. He thought a woman's place was in the kitchen. sexagenarian (सेक्सजनेअरिअन) - person between 60 and 69 years old.उदा. 1) My English teacher is a sexagenarian in body and a teenager at heart.2) The sexagenarian had an attack and was rushed to hospital. sexy (सेक्सी) - fashionable or exciting.(या शब्दाला sexually attractive असा अर्थ आहेच, पणी exciting and interesting असा सौम्य अर्थही आहे.)उदा. 1) For a lot of people, grammar is not a very sexy subject.2) The party's political message isn't very sexy. sex up (सेक्स अप) - to make something seem more exciting and interesting.उदा. 1) She uses chat masala (चाट मसाला) in almost every dish to sex it up.2) Dictionaries are best but at times boring. Hence these bulletins- sexed up with jokes, funny stories and cartoons. मुंबईत नववर्षोत्सवाच्या पार्टीतून बाहेर पडणाऱ्या तरुणीला घेरून तिचा विनयभंग करण्याचा प्रयत्न एका टोळक्यानं केला. पुढला आठवडाभर मीडियानं या विषयावर अक्षरक्ष: थमान घातलं. टीव्ही लावला की विनयभंगाची बातमी, मतं, चर्चा, आरोप.. जणू शहरातल्या रस्त्यांवरून बलात्कारी तरुणकंटकांचे तांडे फिरताहेत आणि मुंबईत कुणीही स्त्री सुरक्षित नाही, असं चित्र माध्यमांनी उभं केलं. या अतिरेकाचा उपरोधिक शैलीत समाचार घेणाऱ्या एका लेखाचं शीर्षक होतं- All sexed up and nowhere to go. (सारंच सनसनाटी, आता जावं कुठे?) एक स्त्री आपल्या मुलाला घेऊन डॉक्टरकडे गेली. मुलगा ‘शेक्सपिअर’चा उच्चार योग्य करत नाही अशी तक्रार होती. स्त्री : Doctor, my son has a problem. He pronounces 'Sexphere'.डॉक्टर : 'Sexphere'? Oh, strange ! What is his age ?स्त्री : He is 'sex' years old.
